Root Canal Treatment in Mulund West, Mumbai
Root canal treatment saves a tooth whose inner pulp has become infected or inflamed. The infected tissue is removed, the canals are cleaned and shaped, and the space is sealed — letting you keep a tooth that would otherwise need extracting.
The reputation root canals have for being painful belongs to a previous era of dentistry. Performed under profound local anesthesia with modern rotary instruments, the procedure relieves pain rather than causing it — most patients arrive in discomfort and leave comfortable.
We use rotary endodontics, which shapes the canals with fine nickel-titanium files far more efficiently than hand instrumentation. For many single-rooted teeth this means the whole treatment can be completed in a single sitting rather than spread over multiple visits.
Severe toothache rarely waits politely for an appointment slot. We keep capacity for urgent cases and treat significant pain, swelling and abscesses as same-day priorities wherever clinically possible.
After the canals are sealed, a root-treated tooth is more brittle than a healthy one, so a crown is usually recommended to protect it from fracture. We plan and fit that crown in-house.

What to expect, step by step
- Diagnosis — A clinical examination and digital radiograph confirm whether the pulp is infected and how many canals the tooth has.
- Anesthesia & access — The tooth is fully numbed and a small opening is made to reach the pulp chamber.
- Cleaning & shaping — Infected tissue is removed and the canals are cleaned, disinfected and shaped with rotary files.
- Sealing & crown — The canals are sealed and the tooth is restored — usually with a crown to protect it against fracture.

Is root canal treatment painful?
No. The tooth is fully anesthetised, so most patients feel pressure and vibration but no pain. The treatment exists to remove the source of your toothache — the majority of people report immediate relief afterwards.
Can a root canal be done in one sitting?
Often yes. Many single-rooted teeth without significant infection can be completed in a single appointment using rotary endodontics. Molars with several canals, or teeth with an active abscess, may need a second visit.
Do I really need a crown after a root canal?
In most cases, yes. A root-treated tooth loses its blood supply and becomes more brittle, so it is at genuine risk of splitting under chewing forces. A crown distributes that load and is the difference between a tooth lasting years and lasting decades.
What happens if I delay a root canal?
The infection does not resolve on its own. It typically spreads into the surrounding bone, causing an abscess, swelling and eventually the loss of the tooth — at which point you are looking at extraction and an implant instead. Earlier treatment is simpler and cheaper.
Can I go to work afterwards?
Yes. Most patients return to normal activity the same day. The area may feel tender for a day or two and we will advise on simple pain relief.
