Gum Disease Treatment in Mulund West, Mumbai
Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults, and it is largely silent until it is advanced. Bleeding when you brush is not normal — it is usually the first sign that the gum and bone supporting your teeth are under attack.
Periodontics is Dr. Anu Aggarwal Shah's specialist field. An MDS in periodontics means years of dedicated postgraduate training in exactly this — the diagnosis and treatment of the gum and bone that hold your teeth in place. Most general practices refer this work out; here it is the core discipline of the clinic.
Treatment begins with a full periodontal assessment: pocket depths charted around every tooth, bleeding points recorded, and radiographs to measure bone levels. That baseline tells us how far the disease has progressed and what will actually stop it.
Early gum disease often responds to thorough scaling and root planing — a deep cleaning below the gumline that removes the bacterial deposits driving inflammation. More advanced cases may need flap surgery, regenerative grafting to rebuild lost bone, or treatment of gum recession.
Gum health also determines whether other dentistry succeeds. Implants placed into unhealthy gums fail. Orthodontics on a compromised periodontium can accelerate bone loss. Getting the foundation right first is not an upsell — it is the sequence that makes everything else work.

Why do my gums bleed when I brush?
Bleeding gums are a sign of inflammation, almost always caused by bacterial plaque at the gumline. It is not normal and it does not resolve by brushing more gently. Early treatment at this stage is simple; left alone it progresses to bone loss.
Can gum disease be reversed?
Gingivitis — inflammation confined to the gum — is fully reversible with proper cleaning. Once the disease has destroyed supporting bone, that bone does not regrow on its own. Treatment then aims to halt progression and, in selected sites, regenerate bone with grafting.
What is scaling and root planing?
A deep cleaning that goes below the gumline to remove hardened deposits from the root surfaces, where a routine polish cannot reach. It is done under local anesthesia and is the foundation of most periodontal treatment.
My tooth feels loose — can it be saved?
Often yes, depending on how much bone remains. Mobility is a sign of significant support loss, so it warrants urgent assessment. Splinting, periodontal therapy and in some cases regenerative grafting can stabilise teeth that would otherwise be lost.
Does gum disease affect general health?
There are well-documented associations between periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease, diabetic control and adverse pregnancy outcomes. Chronic oral inflammation is not isolated from the rest of the body, which is one more reason to treat it properly.
